1. Clean a soup can inside and out making sure to remove as much of the gunky glue residue as you can.
2. Take an awl and a hammer and punch a hole in the can. Then I pushed the awl in it to open up the hole even wider to accommodate the pegboard hook.
3. Next find some pretty tissue paper. I have never used regular scrapbook paper but I am sure that would work also. I got this fabulous stuff from a baby gift from Dee. As soon as I saw it I fell in love with it. I heart DAMASK.
4. Now I am sure Modge Podge would work but whenever I have done this project I used Napkin Applique because it is thinner and works well with tissue paper. But it is the same process as decoupaging...slap some glue down, put your paper on, and smooth it out with your fingers. I cut my tissue paper 3 3/4" x 8 1/2" and that fit my cream of mushroom soup can perfectly.
5. I did little sections at a time gluing down and smoothing with my finger as I went.
6. Then seal it with a topcoat of your medium of choice and let it dry. After it is dry stick the awl through your hole again.
7. Hang'em on your pegboard and fill'em.
That's really cute and would work well for a work bench area too.

ReplyDeleteYours turned out adorable! I ♥ that tissue paper you used! It makes me want to repaint my desk and redo the drawer fronts with that instead of the zebra stripe I used. I need to check out that glue you used, too. :) I just used some left over scrapbook papers and mod podge on mine. Great tute...now I can just link to yours and not have to make one myself! :) Love it!

ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say, if you have never tried it, a "Crop-a-dile" will punch holes in tin cans! It really is a fun new option. Think embellishing with wire, beads etc. Thank you for your tutorials. I found your blog recently and love all your creative ideas!
