The dry erase board had long lost it's writing effectiveness so it was out the door. I have had it sitting around for a while waiting for "inspiration" to strike. Well it struck.
Do you remember how I talked about my love language being gifts? Well my hubby's love language is words of affirmation. (If you are shaking your head at that lingo you MUST READ The Five Love Languages...it will change your marriage). And let me tell you..I SUCK AT SPEAKING HIS LANGUAGE! I just feel like I am not creative in my words or that Tim gets sick of me saying the same thing over and over. Any of you whose love language is words of affirmation will say you never tire of hearing great things about yourself. But it jut seems redundant to me and I feel like he may say "Yah...yah...yah...I have heard that before...think of something different."
Hold that thought while I explain my creative process now.
Right next to the door that goes into our mudroom we have had this hanging on the wall to hold our keys and my purse/bags. Tim is always complaining because I take his hook. He just wants one and I seem to take all three. Plus he puts change and random keys on top of the mini shelf and it drives me bananas. So it just was not working for me.
Since three hooks are not nearly enough for me I decided to add four crystal knobs that I had in my stash. I also used my trusty Canyon Black spray paint and gave her a quick blast (after sanding and priming).
Ooooh it looks purdy and gives a splash of color into a boring little hallway.
Since Tim grabs his keys from the same hook everyday and then hangs them up in the same spot (major creature of habit) when he gets home I figured this is the perfect place to attempt to affirm him. Since I already have a place to nag him I figured I also needed a spot to affirm him.
Using some cute magnets, my goal is to change out his "words of affirmation" twice a week (a girls gotta start small).
So I found a picture of us dancing 6 years ago at the first wedding he performed and put it on the magnet board with something sweet and "affirming."
I told Tim my idea and he LOVED it...he also asked if he could have 2 hooks. Now that is asking alot don't ya think?
cute! u work wonders!
ReplyDeleteWho knew they made looooove fabric?? Cute!
ReplyDeleteYour "love" fabric is totally cracking me up. Last weekend we went through 3 years worth of mail/bills/etc and finally got everything organized (hangs head in shame). Hubby INSISTED on having a folder labeled "love" in the filing cabinet. There isn't anything in it except for the birthday card he recycles every year and re-gives me. Haha! Don't know why, but your post made me think of that. Great project!
ReplyDeleteOMG I have something very similar I was threatening to paint tonight. It has a mirror in place of the love fabric and I LOVE the crystal knobs you added Ka-UTE!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. It's lovely! Good job.
ReplyDeleteI love it! Being a words of affirmation girl myself- I think it's great you are trying to speak your husband's language!
ReplyDeleteWow! It was wonderful. You did an amazing work. The design of the fabric is really cute. Thank you for sharing your work of art. Really nice. Until your next post.:)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea. I envy your creativeness. I am going to search for something like this at a garage sale or goodwill. This would make a terrific gift also! That book is on my list to read. I have heard wonderful things about it.
ReplyDeleteYou get an A-plus for being a SUPER WIFE! Your act was so loving! Way to go!!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks Adorable! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteOooohh...loving this... so glad you saved it before it was picked up - I never thought of scouring on trash pick up day... you never cease to inspire and amaze me with your "100% constantly thinking of ways to create" attitude! I love the magnet picture and little notecard - super, super fun. Oh, the "Five Love Language" book totally changed my hubby - he learned how to give back rubs to my liking after reading that book - the best gift I ever gave him - ha! He told me that if anything ever happens to him before our girls get married that he is "requiring" them to read two books before they get married - that one and "Sacred Marriage".
ReplyDeleteOk, this project covers so many areas. How to be creative ... how to recycle ... how to enrich your marriage ... how to be stretched (by finding a way to do what you know blesses your dh, but doesn't come naturally to you) ... how to start & end a day right. I'm inspired and encouraged!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love it most because "words of affirmation" is my love language too. Now if only I could get Tripp to speak my language...
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea! The '5 Love Languages' is an amazing book. Your husband will be so very blessed by this special show of love. Thanks for sharing your idea!
ReplyDeleteLike always....I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteAdding the crystal knobs was especially inventive!
I like that! I'm thinking I really need to figure out a way to get my hubs to read that book.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love it! : ) And I am totally in the same boat, Tim. : ( And no... if he's anything like me, you could say it 3 times in the same week and I would be happy as a clam!
ReplyDeleteStill, I just wish I looked at things the same way you do. What potential in something in the trash!
That is awesome! One womans trash is another womans treasure :D
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. And I *guess* you could give him two hooks. If he's good, right? :D
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome, love the "love" fabric! I need to do something like that for Jim. I think his love language is split between words of affirmation and acts of service. Mine is quality time, and he really doesn't get that yet...after 9 years! Argh...We are working on it lol!
ReplyDeleteSoooo great! It's funny how the simplest of compliments go so far with husbands! It's such a sweet "shrine" to him!
ReplyDeletewhat a cool idea. a great transformation! But you do seem to have a tolerant hubby who embraces your creativity ;-)
ReplyDeleteOur husbands share a primary love language. I painted a wooden box for his birthday one year and filled it with slips of silver-backed cardstock, sealed with gold-and-silver heart stickers. On the slips were dated statements I'd been jotting on a notepad throughout the year: everything from "4/6/06 ~ I love the way your eyes crinkle when you smile" to "8/15/07 ~ Watching you read to our baby with such expression and tenderness makes me so grateful God gave you to me. What a blessing you are!" He kept the box on his desk at work and got to open one (or more) whenever he was having a bad day.
ReplyDeleteHow creative! Love this.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! Love this idea...
ReplyDeleteThat is so darn cute...I have the perfect spot in my home for it if you'd like to send it my way...OK I'll just keep a look out for one to make myself...Love the look of the fabric!! Very Cute!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I love that you turned something that "urked" you into a way to affirm and love your husband. That is positive creativity if I've ever seen some. :)
ReplyDeletethis is just adorable!
ReplyDeleteThis makes me wish I had someone to leave notes for. So adorable!
ReplyDeleteHappy SITS day!
I love it. It is cute how you used it to speak your husbands love language. I just learned the Love Languages a couple of weeks ago from our speaker for our MOPS meeting. She was from Marriage Matters. I love crystal knobs too.
