It is always fun to find something on the curb that you can reuse. It is even more exciting when that something solves a dilemma that drives you crazy. My bath stuff was strewn all over my bathroom floor because I didn’t have a system in place to keep it organized. Now I have a perfect place to store magazines, bubble bath, bath bombs, loofah, and my foot razor thing-a-ba-bob.
Today’s project started out as Roadkill. Yes, I know you see why someone threw this away. It is altogether hideous. I am sorry if this is yours and you hand painted it. Forgive me for my frank analysis. But someone must have hated it also since they threw it away. Just sayin.
I liked the shape and knew it was just the perfect size for my bath products. I LOVES taking bubble baths and perusing the latest Pottery Barn or Ballard Designs catalog. However, they end up all over my bathroom floor because I have no place for them. We needed to fix that.
I lightly sanded the duckies and the rest of the caddy with 120 grit sandpaper and then I primed and painted it. For the paint, I mixed Glidden Smoky Charcoal with Behr’s Pearlesent Medium. It looked much better but it still needed more. Remembering all the good truths in Mandie’s e-books I decided to keep going with distressing and glazing.
After I distressed it a bit, I mixed some glaze with some Deco Art Metallic Silver paint and glazed it with that. Then I added some black acrylic paint to my glaze and glazed it again. It gave it the perfect depth of color I was going for.
I decided to use my Silhouette and add some premium white vinyl to the side of the caddy using the words, “Restore, Revive, Refresh, Renew, Rejuvenate.” Those words truly describe how I feel about this little luxury of life.
Then I added all the things to the caddy that make a bath luxurious. Ahhhh….Perfection!
love it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a GREAT idea!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great make over!!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this!! I love the words that you used on it too.
ReplyDeleteI am the one who hand painted the ducks... actually I was trying to paint geese. I guess I failed big time..
ReplyDeleteI kid, but wouldn't it be crazy if I was the one who painted it? BTW nice makeover.
seriously craving a hot bubble bath after this! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteLoving your blog! I just started my own blog with my fantastic crystal and shell bottle art. I'd love it if you could stop by, and if you like them, follow! :) Off to read more! xoxo, The Crystal Crate.
ReplyDeleteIt is too cute!! and I see some of my favs in your basket. :) happy soaking . .
ReplyDeleteOh man that is so crazy! Talk about so incredibly late 1970's/1980's. Yep I remember making something similar in woodshop (they were ALL the rage!!) You did a great job of repurposing something that hideous! (man did i hate it when we were supposed to paint cutesie stuff in art.... I was a CHROME girl, even back then!!)
ReplyDeleteLove it! Great job on the re-do.
ReplyDeletePS...What man would want a toolbox covered with geese? LOL!
Lovely transformation!
ReplyDeleteOk... so since you use this Silhouette machine in almost everything you do lately, and I've seen it a billion times everywhere else I am thinking it's time to save my pennies. : )
ReplyDeleteOooh, my. I remember when geese were the height of the decorating craze. My mom had a bunch of geesy decor. ;)
ReplyDeleteI much prefer your take on the "tool box." Great job...love the color and the wording on the front. :)
This is a great project and it would make a super DIY gift basket for a new mother, a young bride, a young woman going away to college, etc. Anyone with a little extra stress on her side could benefit and it's so much more personal than a prepackaged scented lotion set.
