Many of you have asked how my training is going for the Bourbon Chase. I have been training for 2 1/2 weeks. The most I have done at one time is 2 miles, so I am still very much in the beginning of training. I have gone 15 miles already. It is hard to imagine that all the miles I ran in the past weeks will all be in one day. Wow! My goal is to run in under a 10 minute mile. I have done 10 runs and 7 of them have been in a sub 10 minute mile. My goal every time I run is just not to stop to walk. If I don't stop then I am making it in under 10 minutes.
I wouldn't say I am enjoying it yet. Before I set out I always have this "uggggh" feeling but once I am done I feel good about myself. I am hoping to one day enjoy it like other runner say they do. I have yet to experience an runner's high. I have felt like my head was going to explode...slightly different I am sure.
I need to get some more running gear and a new pair of shoes. I went to The Running Store and did their treadmill analysis. I kept trying on shoes they recommended but none of them felt magical. I guess I was expecting the shoes to sing the "Hallelujah Chorus" when I tried them on. So I need to keep looking.
Anyone have any 'get up and dance' kinda music to recommend for me to download to my Ipod?
Many of you have asked what the name of that fabric is that I used in my family room. I got it from this website. It is part of their Sherry Kiline Art Deco Collection. I called them and ordered some yardage directly from them. They charged me $10/yard. Waaaay worth it to get a perfect match for my pillows.
The name of my bluey-turqoiuse walls is Into the Sea by Dutchboy. I hate Dutchboy paint, plus they don't have that color anymore so I get it made in Behr satin. Here is the code for it:
Colorant oz 48 96
D Thalo Green 0 16 1
E Thalo Blue 0 17 1
L Raw Umber 1 41 0
I think my next project is going to be to redo my guest bedroom. In your opinion what necessities should be in every guest room (besides a bed and nightstand)?
Keep up the good work on your training! I am about to re-do my guest bedroom as well. I think a comfy chair is a must. For us since we often host guest speakers for our church, a desk is a nice addition as well, just in case someone wants to write or study sermon notes, etc.
ReplyDeleteAn alarm clock
ReplyDeleteI like to leave a tray with a glass (real glass, not a wimpy plastic cup) and a carafe (sp?) of water - I usually cover the carafe with plastic wrap too.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the desk and chair, and comfy chair for a guest room. That's a lot to fit in some rooms, though, so we took the sliding doors off the closet and put the desk in the resulting nook. I also like to keep the furniture drawers empty so that long-term guests have a spot to unpack. Oh! And a lamp on that requisite night stand is also a huge plus. :) And books! Fun and interesting books for your insomniac guests.
ReplyDeleteAnd my husband's favorite feature? The fragrance diffuser in a lavender scent. :) He says it makes the whole room feel peaceful when you walk in.
Gracious, I did not realize I had so many opinions on what was necessary!
One thing I always need in a guest room is an electrical outlet. Most rooms have one or more, but they are hidden behind furniture. I also like a clear surface (desk, dresser, table, etc) to put things, such as a laptop computer, sunglasses, or cell phone. A small television is a nice addition as well. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteUm, when I come visit, I'll need a desk and chair, laptop, HD flatscreen TV, cool phone, mini fridge...oh wait. It's not about me? Ok.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think the desk and chair for sure. Dresser?
I can't believe you paid 10 dollars a yard!!!! Although, it is PERFECT and beautiful!
You are doing GREAT with the running! I think I may have said before that I would need an ambulance and my mile would probably take 4 hours. And that's a conservative estimate.

I have one of those things you set your suitcase on. I love those; it makes it so much easier to live out of a suitcase when it's up off the floor. I think it was like $15from Bed Bath and Beyond. (but you might be able to make one out of some tree branches and ribbon!)
ReplyDeleteGood job! You'll get there. I run and I swear by my Brooks Ariels...
ReplyDeleteSeveral weeks ago I did a post on my running music:

Hope it helps.
:)
I don't know if you listen to secular music or not, but it you do, Costco has a 2 or 3 disc CD set from The Biggest Loser - it has a lot of peppy, dance beats.
ReplyDeleteIf you want Christian music - I enjoy Toby Mac & Kirk Franklin for exercise beats.
Having an empty closet with hangers is nice for a guest bedroom. You don't want your guests to open the closet door and have to push all your junk out of the way!
ReplyDeleteGood job on the training! I went to a running store and got fitted for a $100 shoe. So I went on line and found the Runnngwarehouse.com and got the same shoe for $59 and free shipping. If you google runningwarehouse codes you will find a code that gives you an extra 15% off and the free shipping. I can tell you that once I got new shoes it made my running experience completely different!

An alarm clock of some sort is always nice in a guest room. extra blankets too!
ReplyDeleteItunes has Itunes essential playlists in the music store. They have suggested playlists for running (including running with the hits, running with disco, etc.). You can download the whole list with one click. Plus, each type has 3 lists of songs within it. Great ideas in my opinion!
ReplyDeleteDo you have a list anywhere of basic arts and crafts necessities?
ReplyDeleteSuch as,
Modge Podge is apparently popular, though I'm not even exactly sure what it does..
Buttons,
Spray Paint
Tons of gorgeous fabrics.
There's this little cutting wheel I see every once in a while that looks like a pizza cutter.
Can you make a post on crafts' basic things to own?
You rock! :-)
ReplyDeleteI've given up running for about the 5th time in 2 years. I've never been a runner, and I'm trying to just be content being a walker. Then people like you keep picking up walking, and then I think, well, maybe.....
As for the guest room?....does it have a closet? place to hang clothes? A luggage rack thing? (I want one of those in my small space...somewhere to set the suitcase.) Magazine rack with reading material.
Oh, and I just read a few other comments. I have the Brooks Airs too and love, love, love them! But, it did take three pairs of shoes to find them and the running store was always great about taking the shoes back that I had worn for several days.
A mirror...if not full length than large enough to check your attire. Having to do that in someone's bathroom isn't so great! Extra blankets and pillows too!
ReplyDeleteHere is a link to a site with songs I love to run to. Some of the best ones are in the comment section! http://www.goal-setting-college.com/motivation/inspirational-motivational-songs/ Enjoy!
ReplyDelete1) A chair!!!!
ReplyDelete2) A TV with TVO
3) A small refrigerator
4) 3 packs of M&M's
5) A docking station for my I-POD
6) A landline phone
7) More M&M's
8) A clock
9) Mints on the pillow before bedtime
Oh! And it wouldn't hurt to put a dish of M&M's on the nightstand either.
Love You :)
Mom

PS. Still working on losing that uterus, I see.
favorite work out song ever-Stop the Rock by Apollo 440. Hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI always keep my hotel tolietries in my guest room just in case! I also have bottled water, extra towels, an alarm clock, and reading material (adult and children). My husband's cousin and her children are the ones that use that room the most. She is always grateful for books to read her kids before bed.
ReplyDeleteGirl...
ReplyDeleteI'll send you some bootie shaking hits.
Cause I get my booty shakin' to some fab stuff on a daily basis. And then one day, we will shake booties together.
p.s. This is the most I've ever written "bootie" and "shaking" in one comment. HA!
I'm really not an expert on decorating. I've only had one guest room and it was pretty much all the "single girl" bedroom stuff I brought with me to this house. Plus my sewing machine. All this in a 8x9 room. It didn't last long before having to be repurposed. Anyway, I like to have a "Family Variety Puzzle" book to help clear my brain at night. They're in the magazine aisle with crosswords. To be in someone's house awake when everyone else is asleep is hard.
ReplyDeleteC&C Music Factory, hands-down. It's old-school but it never fails to get me up and moving.
ReplyDeleteWay to go with your training! Yeah, my best friend is a runner, and she loves the runner's high. But, I am 100% sure I've never experienced it. I don't think my body has the capacity for a runner's high. It strikes. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think that a comfy chair is a great must-have in a guest room. If they want to relax and read in the evening or have a quiet time in the morning, they have a quiet, comfortable spot out the bed to relax and read.
