The Deck

We are not completely done with the deck yet. However, it is usable and BEEEEAUTIFUL! In about 30 days we will stain and seal it. Hubs also has to finish the boards under the deck so nothing can crawl underneath it. A big shout-out to to Larry who did the foundation and a big hug and kiss to my father-in-love and dear hubs for all their hard work on the decking and railing.

This pergola actually retracts to let the full sun in as well. For a reheaded, freckle face I sure love this feature. I. DON'T. DO. SUN! Whenever I am out there I make sure it is fully closed so not a peek of sunshine ages my skin.

We also bought an outdoor sectional. I definitely need to make some pillows to give it a punch. All those browns are making me want to scream...COLOR!!!!

I had a friend give us the table. I need to get some chairs for it and give her a good once over with some spray paint.

Anyone for a swim? Unfortunately the deck can't just be an outdoor mecca for me. I do need to think of the kiddos. Isaac is going to love his pool that I just set up for him while he was napping.

I will keep showing you pictures of the progress of our little outdoor haven. So far hubs and I have hung out on the deck after the kids go to bed every night. It sure beats watching TV in my book. Although Tim jokes about installing a flat screen out there...ain't gonna happen!

We also installed some rope lighting underneath the railing for some ambiance. Here is my man enjoying some cheap Starbucks icecream after the kiddos go to bed lounging on our new outdoor furniture and hanging out with his wife. Ahhhh blisssssss!

  1. Wow! What a cool place to spend long summer days! Ok, what is this about the pergola retracting? I definitely need detailed drawings and photos of exactly how that happens. Here in Texas it's crazy hot in the summer so we hid from the sun but that would be perfect to let the sun in the rest of the year!

  2. Awesome! I love our deck, it's so nice to hang out there after the kids are asleep and it's gettin' dark.
And guess what? I got that same exact ice cream at Walmart for 50 cents! I know, you got a better deal, but I was just happy I got any deal! :)

  3. It's wonderful! The home we are in the process of purchasing has a great covered outdoor living area out back and I can't wait to put some furniture out there and enjoy it! The retractable pergola is a wonderful feature! Can't wait to see what you do with accent pillows and the table.

  4. Ooooh, it is looking fabulous! Our deck disappeared during our addition project and I am *missing* it a great deal. We'll build a new deck in a year or two.

By the way, started the kitchen cabinet project this weekend--I'm planning to blog it on Thursday. We're nowhere near done yet, but I'm already LOVING it!! (and dreading the work that is required to finish it!)

  5. It looks great! What a great addition to your house! It's nice that you can enjoy the summer evenings outside there. It's still too darn hot when the sun sets. It was about 90 when we left our friends house tonight at 9pm!

  8. Looks AMAZING!!! I can't wait to come back for a visit. Good job Tim! I have no doubt that you will color it up in no time Beckie. And I know Isaac will love that pool. My mom has one at her house, and the kids practically lived in it while we were there visiting. All in all, a great family hang-out spot! Well done!!

  9. Your husband looks like a happy man, to get a quiet moment of ice cream and wife out on his new deck! :) What a great space!

Confession time: I set aside the sanding project because my friend with a sander moved and we've had other financial priorities than purchasing power tools... sorry for the promise and no follow-through.

By the way, I love your pergola! Did your husband and his dad build that???!
